In ice hockey, the goalie or goaltender is that the player assigned to halt the hockey puck with his body or a stick from going into the net blocking the net. Typically the goalie plays in or around the center-field line, frequently known as the target line. Normally the goalie will face off with another team only, but some may play in the corner to keep the play in order.

The play starts when the puck goes to both sides of the net and the goalie is out place to play the puck. When a shooter is launched from the face of the internet towards the goalie, he must come out too close to the drama or use his stick to stop the shot. If the goalie does not make a save, the play is stopped and the play will continue towards the end of the rink. The play is referred to as an end of game penalty for the group that just suffered a penalty.

Another term you may come across while watching a game of Ice Hockey is "time out". The aim clock then begins to conduct a second slower so that the timeout will be enforced. A timeout is applied to a specific time period. By way of instance, a timeout will be enforced when a team is on offense and the goalie commits a foul before the end of a three-minute power play.

When the puck enters the offensive zone from the defensive zone, the defensemen take the puck over the net into the attacking zone. The forward then skates to the attacking zone with the puck and the net blocker follows. The internet minder is the last one to attempt to stop the drama by retrieving the puck from the back of the net. If the shot is stopped, the goalie is pulled up into the place normally occupied by the internet blocker.

A net minder must have excellent footwork in order to stand before the shot and make the rescue. He must also have outstanding reflexes and be able to move in any direction to cover the puck once it's shot. Many athletes in other sports, including some of the better goalies in the National Hockey League, are more comfortable making saves without the requirement of leaping into the action. A net minder is made to make such hard saves because he has no choice.

Even the best professionals need a net minder to enter and make a save when things get tough. In the game of Ice Hockey, the best thing you could do is to get the right person leading your team to the winning goal!
